1 ringie-dingie, 2 ringie-dingie Our first exposure to the telephone ring was exciting, because of the newness of this invention. But then, you start to dread hearing the thing ring. Same old noise, and it could get annoying. Then, someone said let there be ring tones! Ring tones have been around as long as mobile phones themselves, but they have evolved. The first ring tones that were offered on your cell phone were either the typical ring ring like a house phone, or similar versions just a little jazzed up. Now, you can get actual jazz, if that's your thing. With all cellular phones, there are ring tones on them as soon as you purchase the phone. You get a few typical ring styles, all business like, and a few styles of music that no one recognizes. Some phones offered small pieces of music, that sounded like they were played by a xylophone. Those are what we call "Polyphonic" or poly for short. They usually don't cost as much as regular audio ring tones, because they are not that detailed. They have no words, or actual instruments for that matter. They do serve their purpose, and some ring tones only come in the polyphonic variety. Audio phonic, or audio, ring tones are actual pieces of a song that can be downloaded to your mobile phone and used as ring tones. These are the ones you hear when your in the mall and a song just starts, often mid sentence, and makes you want to break out dancing.
No matter what your taste, there are ring tones to suit your style everywhere. There are massive amounts of ring tones to choose from and they can easily be downloaded to your cellular phone. Some ring tones are free. Yes, actually free! Some ring tones have to be paid for, but usually it is a monthly fee, and helps keep the music flowing. All music genres can be found, as well as comedian performances, holiday specific ring tones, and special ring tones they call "voice ringers". These voice ringers range from someone, usually someone from a studio that makes these types of ring tones, calling your name and telling you to pick up the phone, to popular celebrities talking to you when your cell phone rings. There are also sound effects. Some are nice and calming, like waterfalls with birds singing in the background, or some one softly playing the pan flute. Then there are crude ring tones, people belching, and yes, even passing gas. The sound effects are so numerous, there has to be a couple that everyone will like, no matter what kind of sense of humor they have. If by some strange chance you happen to be so picky in choosing a ring tone that you can't possibly find what you are looking for, there is still help for you. There are multiple web sites devoted to ring tones, and making your own. When you make your own ring tone, you take a song, or other type of sound that you have either downloaded or uploaded to your computer, and upload it to the site. You can play little pieces of the music or sound so it is more personalized to your liking. Then you find the right piece from the music or sound that you like, and save it. And there you have it. A personal ring tone made for you, by you! Then you just send it from the web site to your mobile phone, where you save it as a ring tone or sound. So the next time someone calls you, your ring tone is exactly what you wanted, because you made it yourself! Most mobile phones have a "record sound" feature. You get usually sixty seconds of air time to record what you want. You can also make personal ring tones by recording your voice, or someone else's to your mobile phone. How cool would it be to hear, " Hi honey, it's mom calling you..." and it actually be? Maybe a group of friends singing happy birthday to you, so you can have it to use on your next birthday? The possibilities are limitless. The ability to record sound on your mobile phone and use it as a ring tone is wonderful. I have even heard a strange ring tone once, and when I asked where they got it, I was told it was from their baby's ultrasound. Their unborn baby's heartbeat was their ring tone! Ring tones are personal choices that are for you to enjoy. If you choose music, sound effects, or you make your own, it is purely up to you. Find a song that makes you want to groove when your partner calls, or the screech of a psychopath for when your mother-in-law phones you. How about a little "Jingle bells" for the Christmas holiday?
